Tanzania cinnamon (Cinnamomum aromaticum) or Mdalasini in Swahili is the product of the interior of the bark of the tree bearing its name. It improves the aroma of various foods and adds flavour as well. It is also a source of essential oil, whose components are the sources of the spice’s aromatic qualities. Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. Cinnamon is used mainly as an aromatic condiment and flavouring additive in a wide variety of cuisines, sweet and savoury dishes, breakfast cereals, snack foods, tea and traditional foods.
